Lost in Translation

For our first international entry, I give you the Amsterdam Conservatory's take on the old favorite, "When the cat's away, the mice will play."

These sayings are plastered in the stairwells, perhaps as inspiration?

Cause and Effect

Riding the F train home from work one day, I came across this brilliant pairing of advertisements, nestled side-by-side (you can see the subway art that carries across both photos).

One says we should eat less and even suggests calling the government to get help.

The other says: "Food on Demand."

Yes, you are seeing correctly, that is  someone on receiving pizza via catapult.

And people wonder why we lead the world in obesity.

My favorite part of the pizza ad is the fact that it is advertising using your cell phone to order food, because it's always been so hard to order take-out via a phone . . .

A Sign of the Times

Spotted in upper New York during the height of the Great Recession.
The extra spaces, tailored capitalization, and highlighting adds a modern art/poetic aesthetic to an otherwise drab presentation.

Escape

Because being prepared is always better than being lucky.

Today's entry is the fire escape plan for a nickel and dime shop in northern Pennsylvania. The entire shop is not much larger than my one-bedroom apartment.

Favorite aspects:

1. The continual arrows down an aisle, as if once you started running from the back of the store you might stop halfway, now confused as to the rest of your route.

2. The poor sap who takes the righthand exit from the office, hurdling a counter to survive the impending danger.
